2023 Corruption Perceptions Index Shows No Improvement

Corruption Continues to Plague the World

2023 Corruption Perceptions Index Shows No Improvement

The latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), released by Transparency International, paints a grim picture of the state of corruption around the world. The index ranks 180 countries and territories on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). The average score for 2023 is just 43, which is the same as it was in 2022. This means that most countries are failing to make progress in the fight against corruption.

Stagnant Corruption Levels

One of the most concerning findings of the CPI is that corruption levels are at a standstill in many countries. This means that corruption is not getting worse, but it is also not getting better. This is a serious problem, as it suggests that many countries are not taking the necessary steps to address corruption.

Decline in Corruption Levels

Another worrying finding of the CPI is that the number of countries in decline is increasing. In 2023, 124 countries saw their corruption levels either remain the same or decline. This is up from 117 countries in 2022. This suggests that corruption is becoming more widespread and that many countries are not doing enough to combat it.

Only a Few Countries Show Improvement

The CPI also found that only 28 of the 180 countries measured by the index have improved their corruption levels over the last year. This is a small number, and it suggests that the fight against corruption is not being won. More needs to be done to address corruption and to ensure that all countries are making progress in the fight against this scourge.
