Marian Robinson, the mother of former first lady Michelle Obama, has died according to a statement from the Obama and Robinson families.
Robinson, a longtime Chicago resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2024, at the age of 86. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Robinson was born in Chicago in 1937 and raised in the city's South Side. She worked as a secretary for many years before retiring to care for her grandchildren.
Robinson was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her kind heart, her strong work ethic, and her love of family.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Obama; her son-in-law, former President Barack Obama; her grandchildren, Malia and Sasha Obama; and her great-grandchildren, Aurora and Bridget.
