British Man Kills 5 People in Plymouth Shooting

First Details About the Shooter Emerge

Katharina Delling Discusses the Shooting and the Ongoing Police Investigation

A gunman killed five people, including a three-year-old girl, in a mass shooting in Plymouth, England, on Thursday, August 12, 2021. The suspect, a 22-year-old man named Jake Davison, was known to police and had a history of mental health issues.

According to police, Davison shot and killed his mother at her home before going outside and shooting four other people, including a three-year-old girl, her father, and her mother. Davison then turned the gun on himself.

Police are still investigating the motive for the shooting, but they believe that Davison was acting alone. They are also looking into whether Davison had access to guns legally.

The shooting has shocked the UK and raised questions about gun control in the country. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he was "deeply shocked and saddened" by the incident and that the government would be "taking action to keep our communities safe."

Katharina Delling, a German reporter who was in Plymouth at the time of the shooting, said that the community was "in shock" and that people were "struggling to make sense of what had happened."

"It's a very close-knit community, and everyone is feeling the loss," Delling said. "People are coming together to support each other, but there is also a lot of anger and frustration."
